Ellie Goulding is out here proving exactly why she is a female force of power while unapologetically showing off her muscles in the gym.
The singer, 33, is an avid fan of fitness and a regular gym goer, who is often sharing workout snaps and videos on social media with her fans.
It’s fair to say that Ellie has a pretty impressive physique, thanks to her hard efforts working up a sweat, and while women can shy away from building muscle, the Love Me Like You Do hit-maker says it’s not something that ‘intimidates or scares her’.
In fact, her build is a reflection of all the things she’s overcome, as Ellie reflected on her fitness journey and explained how exercise has helped her mentally.
Alongside a picture of her flexing in the gym in her sports gear, Ellie wrote: ‘here aren’t many muscular women in popular culture* 🤷🏼♀️ Nothing I do in the gym is for vanity.
‘To me it isn’t intimidating or scary to be strong (in fact anyone who has met me knows I am the most pathetically shy and self deprecating person).’
She continued: ‘When posting gym photos, I only ever wanted to show that with all the things I’ve overcome, keeping fit and strong has been my ultimate escape. I have no extraordinary athletic ability and I was crap at sports as a kid (I was so severely asthmatic I could barely even laugh without a coughing fit) but I’ve pushed myself and used all the willpower I can muster to keep at it.’
Encouraging others to stick with their own fitness journey, Ellie, who recently landed her third number one album, added: ‘As hard as it is to stay motivated, especially right now, I still recommend it passionately for any mental health issues you are facing… even a small walk or jog.
‘Ps – I didn’t do any exercise today because I didn’t want to! Might not tomorrow either. Love to all the strong women out there and to those just getting started- I am with you 💙.’

There was a time, however, when Ellie admits she had an addiction to exercise and let her love for the gym interfere with her life.
Speaking to The Sun back in March, earlier this year, Ellie explained: ‘I don’t consider myself to have an addictive personality but I felt as though I did at one point have a gym addiction that was just not fun.’
‘I felt I had to go to the gym every single day,’ Ellie said, saying that she believes it stemmed from a ‘survival thing’ as life on tour can be taxing. It was her way of coping and staying in good shape.
‘When you go to the gym or you work out, you release so many endorphins. It’s such a good feeling that you just want to have that feeling over and over again. But when it got to the point where I was skipping the studio and skipping writing sessions to go to the gym, that was when it just wasn’t worth it.’
She credited her husband Caspar Jopling, who is a rower, for ‘inspiring’ her to find a healthier balance and relationship with exercise.
Ellie married Caspar in August last year in a stunning ceremony held at York Minister cathedral. The pair first began dating in 2017.
